New Action Sports Helmet Provides Advanced Protection and Sustains
Multiple Impacts
W
Helmets with Zorbium Foam: the most significant technological
advancement in helmet safety in more than 30 years.
Not all helmets are equally protective.
New W Helmets are the first to use Zorbium
Foam, the most significant technological advancement in helmet safety
in more than 30 years. Zorbium enables W Helmets to absorb more impact
energy than the EPP or EPS foams used in other helmets.
Introduced by Team Wendy, LLC, headquartered in Cleveland,
Ohio, the Zorbium Foam in W Helmets also is engineered to rebound upon
impact, enabling W Helmets to protect after multiple impacts. This is
an advantage over helmets with EPP and EPS that substantially lose their
effectiveness after sustaining just one blow.
Dan Moore, chairman of Team Wendy, says, "It is time
we stopped assuming that just because we wear a helmet we are safe, and
instead ask if the helmet we choose is as protective as it should be."
Zorbium Foam: The Element of Protection
For decades, the foams used in most other helmets typically have been
expanded polystyrene (EPS) or expanded polypropylene (EPP). With these
foams, protection is possible through material destruction: to absorb
energy the helmet must receive a crushing blow hard enough to break or
crack the foam. While most industry testing standards are based on this
breaking point, this unfortunately means that if an individual is not
going fast enough, a majority of the impact is transferred directly to
his or her head and brain.
By contrast, Zorbium Foam utilizes its entire thickness
to absorb impact energy through dissipation, not material destruction.
Its ability to absorb energy without breaking or cracking enables the
W Helmet to be the first true multiple-impact helmet of its kind.
Safety in Style and Comfort
Team Wendy President & CEO Hayden "Chip" Leon says, "Unfortunately,
many people believe that aesthetics, fit and ventilation are all that
make a helmet. These are important aspects, and we have taken them into
consideration in designing W Helmets. A misconception, though, is that
all helmets are
equally safe, which is not necessarily true. W Helmets are engineered
for safety first, and that means we are offering a new option for people
to consider when selecting a helmet--a greater level of protection."
W Helmets are available in a variety of dramatic colors.
Standard colors include Ruby Red Metallic, Gypsy Blue Metallic and Pearlescent
White. Specialty colors include Carbon Fiber, Gun Metal Silver, Chromashift
Copper/Green and Midnight Metallic.
Superior airflow control with an optional Slider
opens and closes the ventilation to make W Helmets comfortable in any
temperature or weather condition. An ear and neck CozyGard provides
warmth in big powder and on cold days or rides, but can be removed when
the sun comes out, the temperature rises and the individual starts cranking
big turns or big air.
For a helmet to work, it must stay put. Dialit
is W Helmets' exclusive, universal fitting system. After selecting the
appropriate size, individuals simply turn the dial on the back of W Helmets
to comfortably secure the helmets in place.
Helmet Safety Has its Benefits
True to the company's mission to advance helmet safety and head trauma
research, Team Wendy is working in conjunction with world-class health
organizations, including the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, to conduct medical
research that will lead to new findings about traumatic brain injury and
helmet effectiveness, and further advance helmet protection. Suggested
retail prices are: $99.99 for standard colors, $119.99 for standard colors
with Slider , and $149.99 for specialty colors with Slider.
The Team Wendy Story
Wendy Moore was an expert skier who loved life. She died at age 29 on
March 15, 1997, as the result of a traumatic head injury sustained while
skiing without a helmet. Her family founded Team Wendy with the vision
and mission to protect those who have a passion for action sports like
Wendy did, and to engineer an improved helmet design that raises the bar
for helmet safety standards. After extensive research and development,
drawing upon the expertise of scientists, engineers and doctors from multiple
disciplines, the result is W Helmets with Zorbium Foam.
W Helmets meet or exceed the following standards: ASTM
F-2040-00 for skiing and snowboarding, ASTM F-1447 for bicycling, CPSC
bicycle helmet safety standard for ages 5 and above.\
