Its June 29th and I’m getting very excited as the hours count down until I leave on my rad adventure to the Down Under! (New Zealand) Unfortunately, as many of you may know, there are really devastating wild fires raging in Colorado right now. One specifically, the “Waldo Canyon” fire is fairly close to my family’s home. It has already burned down hundreds of homes and over 9 square miles. The fire has taken over 15,324 acres and over 32,000 people have been evacuated. I have personal family and friends that have been evacuated and lost their homes. My family and I have personally had our evacuation plan in place to be ready at a moments notice. We’ve even been taking turns at “night watch” to listen to the Fire/Rescue radio scanner and to stay on alert i case we have to evacuate. Our home is literally due west a few miles from this fire. Luckily our home is safe as of now and looks like it will stay that way.

It’s a crazy thought thinking that I’ll be going from 100 degree temperatures and wild fires, straight to 30 degrees and snow! Going to be one wild experience! We have had over a week of 100 degree weather and intense winds, which isn’t helping the fire.
As winter approaches New Zealand, its averaging around 40 degrees this week. Below are some photos of the fire in my home town from here in Colorado and a time lapse video made by the local news. Also is a photo of my future home in Wanaka NZ!! One BIG change! Please keep Colorado in your thoughts.
