Timberline 2015 Summer Ski Season Coming To An End After August 2nd

Snowboarding News | Wednesday July 29, 2015 | Shared By: Timberline Lodge and Ski Area

The last official day of public summer skiing up on Timberline’s Palmer Snowfield will be August 2nd. Timberline thanks everyone involved for another wonderful summer season, albeit a short one. “It is remarkable that we have been able to provide such a great product as long as we did this summer, considering the low snow year and hot summer temperatures we’ve been experiencing,” commented area operator Jeff Kohnstamm, “and we all owe a debt of gratitude to our wonderful mountain crew.” The ski area which typically receives well over 400 inches of snow each winter, boasts the longest ski season in North America, and typically operates on a daily basis through Labor Day. This past winter however, the ski area received only 297 inches of snow, (measured at the 6000 foot level of the Lodge) and never got the late spring dump of 100 plus inches that normally ensures a long summer season. The last time Timberline had an abbreviated summer ski season was in 2005, when skiing went until August 18th.

There is still lots to do at Timberline this summer, with hiking, biking, fine dining, and tours of the historic lodge just a few of the options. Beginning Monday August 3rd, the Magic Mile chairlift will operate offering sky rides for foot passengers from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily through Labor Day, September 7th. Timberline’s annual free Mountain Music Festival held each Labor Day in the outdoor amphitheater will feature touring musicians John Lilly, Liz Longley, Darlingside, and veteran folk rocker Jonathan Edwards.
