Today at the Spring Skiing Capital™ our grins were ear to ear! We let our flannel shirts flap in the wind as we cruised through creamy corn snow. After a full day on the slopes, our goggle tans were two shades darker.
The Trek to the Top/ Earn Your Turns
The high point of today’s adventure was a hike up to Granite Peak. Accessed from the top of Granite Chief Chair via a moderate hike, Granite Peak is the highest point at Squaw Valley at 9,050’. To those willing to make the trek, Granite Peak delivers stellar lake views and offers exciting and varied terrain. You can rip big arcing turns through the wide open bowl or drop a cornice into a steep bouldery chute.
Unique Spring Terrain
Granite Peak has great coverage for this time of year thanks to over 60 FEET of snowfall this season and we’ve been able to keep this coveted terrain open much later. Skiing The Chief Zone in the middle of May is a unique spring treat!
Timing is Key
With warm days and cold nights ahead of us, the hike is typically open mid-day when the snow surface is prime. Patrol closely monitors snow surface and will open and close the terrain as conditions allow. Get out mid-morning for the best quality spring snow and don't forget to freshen up your skis and boards with a coat of warm temp wax available at our tuning center in the Village.
Get Your Spring Turns In
This stretch of beautiful spring weather continues through the weekend. Come on out and enjoy the sunshine!
