Music In The Market The Basinbillies

Snowboarding News | Saturday February 23, 2013 | Shared By: Timberline Lodge and Ski Area

The collaboration of four longtime friends transplanted from on small town to another, The Basinbillies are anything but a terrible backwoods, jug-blowing pack of inbreds. Founded in 2010 in a little town deep in the forests of Northwest Oregon they were able to craft a specific, and unique blend of Bluegrass, Country, Americana with a fat slab of punk to pull it all in. The result is what you would expect if Flogging Molly, The Soggy Bottom Boys and The Decedents would sound like if they were to procreate. Audiences have dubbed the Basinbillies “thrashgrass” to describe their deceptively mellow core sound (mandolin, banjo, homemade washtub bass and four-part harmonies) as juxtaposed by restless jaunts of hillstomp rock. Fittingly, they took first prize at the Spirit Mountain “Country Ruckus” competition in the summer of 2010. The Basinbillies released a demo album in December 2010 showcasing a striking high-energy sound driven by four-part harmonies with reverence to old timey bluegrass and modern folk-and-roll. Fans have waited long enough and their full-length freshman album “Whiskey on a Work Night” is due to be out early spring of 2012. They have played all over the northwest at venues large and small and continue to invent genre-bending sounds for listeners young and old. You’ll find the barn burned down and people still dancing long after The Basinbillies have left the cornfield.
