A Dynamic Lineup Announced for the 2017 Timberline Mountain Music Festival

Monday September 4th

Timberline Lodge continues its Labor Day tradition of offering a marvelous day of free live music, in partnership with the Boyd Coffee Company and the Mt. Hood Brewing Company. Some of the world’s best roots musicians will perform at Timberline’s historic outdoor amphitheater for the 2017 Timberline Mountain Festival on Monday, September 4th.

Portland’s own Carl Solomon will open the show at 12:30. This local singer-songwriter accompanies himself on guitar and delivers riveting “slice of life” songs steeped in soulful folk, roots, and blues. Carl performs in the storyteller tradition, and delivers tales well worth listening to.

Following Carl’s solo opener, we are kicking it up a notch! The 2017 Timberline Mountain Music Festival features a dynamic selection of some of the finest young string bands currently recording and touring the folk, bluegrass, and Celtic scene. If you know their music, you know what we’re talking about. If you haven’t heard them yet, you are in for a real treat!

Originally from the shores of Lake Michigan and now based out of Nashville, Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys will take the stage at 1:00 p.m. Their sound is an eclectic mix of country and bluegrass tinged Americana music featuring the talented musicianship from the Flatbellys, and of course Lindsay’s lovely vocals.

The Way Down Wanderers, also from the Midwest, is professionally trained but brings a gloriously loose jam-band vibe to their lively stage show. This five piece modern Americana string band draws in their crowd with fine musicianship and then captivate them with soulful, stirring instrumentals, harmony singing, and foot-stomping sing-alongs. The Way Down Wanderers take the stage at 2:15 pm.

The Railsplitters innovates with skillful playing and a powerful stage performance. They’ve remained true to the roots of bluegrass music while simultaneously unleashing tradition and taking bluegrass to new heights…and to new audiences. Banjo player Dusty Rider’s songs propel the group’s original sound while Loren Stovall’s lead vocals are like butter. Hailing from Colorado, they were the winner of the 2013 Rockygrass Band Competition and have gained serious attention on the festival circuit ever since. Dig ‘em at 3:30 PM.

All the way from Galway, Ireland, our headliner band, We Banjo 3 will thrill you! Innovation is also a hallmark of this fine group. By blending traditional instruments and the stylings of bluegrass and Celtic music, they have developed a sound and style that has been referred to as “Celtgrass.” Lee Zimmerman writing for Elmore Magazine said it best, “It’s as if Punch Brothers, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and the Chieftans all got together for a battle of the bands but decided to pool their resources instead.” Enough said. We’re in for a great music festival. Wear your dancing shoes! We Banjo 3 should take the stage around 5:00 pm and play into the sunset.

Admission is free to the Timberline Mountain Music festival compliments of Boyd Coffee Company, the Mt. Hood Brewing Company, and R.L.K. and Company, operators of Timberline Lodge. Enjoy Timberline’s food and beverages on the back “pickin’ patio.” Bring an instrument to join in the jams lead by the Taborgrass Players and visit with various outreach groups including The Friends of Timberline, The Pacific Crest Trail Association, and the U.S. Forest Service. No dogs or picnic lunches please. Music is rain or shine – 12:30 to sunset.
