QUARTERPIPE FINALS



(February 17, 2012) Tonight marks the end of the
Quarterpipe Finals at the famous Holmenkollen ski jumping arena just outside
Oslo’s city centre. With the world’s best snowboarders competing in the first
championships run by snowboarders since 1999, thousands of spectators came in
droves to see their favorite riders compete.



The eight Quarterpipe event finalists were made
up of the six best scores and two “Lucky Losers” who launched the biggest airs
in qualifying and semi-finals. The world record still stands from 2007 at 9.8
meters and the pressure was on to beat it. During practice sessions, one rider
passed the eight-meter mark, but no one came close to matching the 32+ foot
record. Most important criteria in scoring for the Quarterpipe was, of course,
amplitude, where the difficulty of tricks increases with the height.



After three runs each and possible 100 points,
here are the final results with France’s Olivier Gittler taking First Place on
the podium, although Terje and the other local boys were the crowd favorites:
