The Walls Arrive In Gili Air

Snowboarding News | Tuesday April 15, 2014 | Shared By: Coldsmoke

We have landed in Bali, Indonesia. At the airport we met up with our great friend and one of the most legendary snowboarders in the world, Peter Line. We hop on “fast boat” for about 2 hours and head out to the tiny island of Gili Air.

Nice place for a picnic.

The Gili Islands are made up of three small islands, just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia; Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. This is a photo from google maps to see an overview. They are very small with very few people living on them.

There are no motorized vehicles allowed on any of the three islands. The only forms of transportation are walking, bicycle, or these horse drawn carriages called a “cadomo.”

Ever seen the TV show “Pimp My Ride” on MTV… Well over here they get their horses all “pimped” out!

On Gili Air you can walk around the entire island in about 1 hour. Passing very few people along the way. Out on the horizon is the silhouette of the even smaller, Gili Meno.

The middle of Gili Air is jungle and fields where some cattle graze. IMG_8131" width="640" height="480" />

There are some seriously huge spiders on the island as well. If you open up your hand and spread your fingers out really far… thats about the size of this one!! I was going to put my hand in the photo so you could get a perspective… but obviously that meant putting my hand close to the spider which is not going to happen!

Some local kids on the beach.

Unlike the rest of Indonesia, which has many stray dogs, the Gili Islands have stray cats. For the most part the are pretty clean and i am guessing they help with pest control. Although this one was only interested in out tuna sashimi!
