Québec City, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 – Suspense, surprises, thrills and spills—Snowboard Jamboree presented by Mazda in collaboration with Videotron Mobile promises all that and more as athletes from over 30 countries get one last chance to book their ticket to the Sochi Olympic Games. With just days to go until the first boarders go head to head, there’s definitely something special in the air as eyes turn to the FIS Snowboard World Cup in Québec City and Stoneham from January 16 to 19, a 5-star event on the prestigious World Snowboard Tour.
Everyone’s talking about Stoneham
It is now too late to register to join the 200+ athletes who will be in Stoneham and Québec City, with the FIS (Fédération internationale de ski), the World Snowboard Tour (WST), and the organizing committee very satisfied at the buzz the event is generating. “Québec City will be our last Freestyle World Cup before the Olympics, and a lot of athletes will be there, especially in Slopestyle,” commented Roberto Moresi, FIS Snowboard Race Director. “We’re sure teams will be showing a lot of interest in this last stop before Sochi.” It goes without saying that all eyes will be on the Slopestyle World Cup, with the discipline making its Olympic debut later this year. And many Canadian athletes in particular will be giving their all since 16 places across all disciplines are still up for grabs before Team Canada lands in Sochi.
Snowboarders in the spotlight
At the Big Air World Cup presented by Videotron Mobile, the Slopestyle World Cup presented by S3, and the Halfpipe World Cup presented by Mazda, the world’s best boarders will take Stoneham Mountain Resort and Îlot Fleurie in Québec City by storm, wowing crowds with performances to remember. And visitors will have a whole host of activities to keep them entertained when the athletes are not in action, too. With S3 Future Pro amateur comps presented by Chocolate Milk, Slopestyle and Halfpipe free sessions or sessions supervised by a trainer, and a chance to jump on a snowboard and give the sport a try for yourself at Mountain in the City, also sponsored by Chocolate Milk, at the Big Air site in Québec City, young people will also feel the adrenalin flowing in front of family and friends. Plus there’s the lively exhibitors’ zone in Québec City and Stoneham, not to mention the Stoneham Family Zone, featuring inflatable games, snow painting, relay races, a giant bean toss, and lots more fun for kids of all ages.
From sport… to music!
Since 2005 Snowboard Jamboree has made a name for itself as the snowboard festival no one wants to miss, featuring not only the sport’s biggest names but also plenty to keep your artistic side entertained too. This year will be no exception at ExpoCité’s Pavillon du commerce, which plays host to the official Snowboard Jamboree party presented by Tremblay Beer on Saturday, January 18, at 7 p.m. It promises to be a night to remember, with eclectic performances to bring the snowboarding world together and the finale of the Stairsmasters MOVIE edition, followed by live music from Swedish punk rock group Millencolin. Pulley, Strike Anywhere, Still Insane, and DJs Mix Master Mike (formerly of the Beastie Boys) and Adam Doubleyou will keep the tunes coming. Advance tickets are available at $35 (+ tax and service fee) until January 17 via the Billetech network, and cost $40 at the door (+ tax and service fee). The local public transit system, RTC, will be putting on extra buses especially for the occasion: Service begins at 1 a.m. and ends at 3 a.m., with buses scheduled every 30 minutes for both Métrobus lines in the neighbourhood (bus numbers 801 and 802).
