Mt. Bachelor has a deep legacy of snowboarder talent who call its trails home. The prolific powder and inbounds steeps provide both a proving and playground for many esteemed professionals, including the reputable Josh Dirksen and Austin Smith. Both of these gentlemen posses an accomplished and easy style and a faculty for picking apart the natural features of a variety of terrain, so it’s no surprise that when they have time off, they can be found making laps at Bachelor. Each December, they, along with their fellow Bachelor locals, welcome the snowboard community to their home for one of the most epic weekends of the calendar year and Josh’s brainchild, the Dirksen Derby. At the ninth annual iteration of the banked slalom event, Mother Nature hit it out of the park, blanketing Bachelor in relentless fresh snow for the duration of the event. The gates for the Derby were filled and in between timed runs, the massive crew of snowboarders stacked slashes, faceshots and rooster tails. With so much terrain covered in new snow and the storms coinciding with one of the best weekends of winter, it was the perfect opportunity for Austin to show new Smith team rider Louif Paradis around the resort he and Dirksen call home.
