Recent articles in the media have brought to light that Jenny Rissveds, and other Swedish mountain bike athletes, would not be selected to race at the World Championships in Cairns due to contractual issues between the Swedish Federation, federation sponsors and individual athlete sponsors.
POC CEO, Jonas Sjögren, said “POC is a Swedish company and we pride ourselves on having a contract and working closely with the Swedish Federation and the cyclists they support across the country. Like all enthusiasts and supporters, we want our best national athletes to have the opportunity to compete on the world stage and we will do whatever we can to support them.”
“Contracts are a complicated, but necessary, part of sport. However, if there is a willingness to discuss and find a solution to a particular problem, from all parties involved, then we are always willing to be as open and flexible to ensure that our national athletes get to compete at the highest level.”
“We have shown our flexibility and willingness to find the best solution for all, most recently by agreeing that some athletes at the Olympics could chose to use their team sponsors equipment, instead of POC. Without hesitation we are willing to consider all possibilities and avenues to ensure that Jenny Rissveds and other athletes are free to compete at the Championships and welcome the chance to support our athletes.”
POC is a Swedish company with a strong mission to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists. As a Swedish company POC is a natural supporter of the national teams and has welcomed the opportunity to work closely with the Swedish Cycle Federation. In 2015 POC and the Swedish Cycle Federation agreed an official partnership which would support all Swedish cycling federation teams with POC helmets, eyewear, body armor and apparel.
