POC has built an international reputation on safety, innovation and design, and announces several new major innovations for its 2018 bike collection. In particular, SPIN, which is a new, innovative and unique helmet technology created to counter the effects of oblique impacts, and Clarity, which brings a new level of eyewear technology and performance for all cyclists.
SPIN will be integrated into several existing POC helmets and will also be included in a brand new DH and Enduro specific helmet, the Coron Air. POC has also developed brand new lens technology, Clarity, which will feature in road, mountain bike and urban eyewear, and is complemented by a new goggle designed specifically for Enduro and DH riders, the Ora.
POC CEO, Jonas Sjögren, said “We are very proud to present several new and exciting innovations for cycling 18. Over the last ten years POC has developed a wealth of knowledge around helmet technology, materials and design, and SPIN, which stands for ‘Shearing Pad INside’, is our brand new patent-pending rotational impact protection system.
Working with medical experts in POC Lab we know that oblique impacts are common and can cause serious head injury due to a rotation of the helmet and head. To counter oblique impacts, we have created SPIN pads, which are optimized to provide rotational impact protection based on the precise location inside the helmet. The objective is to minimize the effects of an oblique fall by allowing the helmet to move relative to the head.
We are particularily excited to introduce SPIN, which will be a major feature in our helmets, as it is at the very heart of our mission and introduces a new level of helmet technology, comfort and protection.”
SPIN will be integrated in many of POC’s existing award winning helmet models, including the Tectal Race and Octal X. SPIN will also feature in the brand new helmet the Coron Air, which is designed specifically for the needs of modern day DH and Enduro riders. The Coron Air has been developed with more ventilation channels and enhanced airflow to keep riders cool and take in as much air as possible whilst riding all day or through Enduro transfer stages. With the inclusion of SPIN the Coron Air will support both linear and oblique impacts and POCs own rigorous safety and quality demands. The Coron Air is also lightweight and strikes the perfect balance for modern day DH and Enduro riding with enhanced safety, ventilation, weight and comfort.
POC, which was recently awarded the bike industry ‘Brand of the Year 2017’ and has been awarded more than 50 international safety, design and innovation awards, was founded in 2005 in Sweden. POC’s mission is ‘to do the best we can to possibly save lives and to reduce the consequences of accidents for gravity sports athletes and cyclists’.
POC CEO, Jonas Sjögren, continued – “The POC mission is at the very centre of the development process, as illustrated with our brand new vision and lens technology, Clarity. We work closely with professional riders and racers and understand that their vision is the gateway to performance, decision making and safety.
We have developed Clarity with industry leaders, Carl Zeiss, to provide unique, highly tuned lenses which have light frequencies created for specific activities and environments (road, mtb, urban) and which will provide enhanced contrast and light. Better vision will support performance and faster reactions, but Clarity can also improve everyone’s safety and ability to react to dangers.”
Clarity lenses will be integrated in POCs current activity specific eyewear collections and a brand new DH and Enduro specific goggle, the Ora, is announced for 2018. The Ora goggle has been designed to work seamlessly with POC helmets, in particular the Tectal Race, Coron Air and Coron. Enhanced ventilation zones, a bike specific design and various lens options offer incredible comfort, precision and field of view. The Ora Clarity, which uses the new Clarity lens technology, is the ultimate goggle and lens for DH and Enduro riders who require uncompromising vison and technology.
