Northstar California Resort Opens Halfpipe Friday Jan 9

Snowboarding News | Wednesday January 07, 2015 | Shared By: Snowboarder Mag

TRUCKEE, Calif. (Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015) – Northstar California Resort will open this winter’s first halfpipe to skiers and riders Friday, Jan. 9. Located on Pipeline trail and accessible via Vista Express, the halfpipe is a popular and highly-anticipated feature among Northstar’s terrain park users. Its addition allows for a contiguous, uninterrupted terrain park descent from the top of Pinball Park, which currently offers guests access to 46 features, into the Pipeline Park, which hosts the halfpipe.

“Recent weather patterns brought very cold temperatures, allowing for extensive snowmaking efforts at the halfpipe’s location,” said Beth Howard, vice president and general manager. “With the recent opening of The Islands and Castle Peak on The Backside, Northstar now offers 70 open trails. Friday’s halfpipe opening will be a great addition to the resort’s three open terrain parks, which collectively offer more than 70 features for all levels of progression. Prosser, an advanced slope on Lookout Mountain, also opens Friday.”

Northstar’s terrain and progression parks are an integral component to the resort’s terrain-based beginner learning system. As the first resort to introduce Smart Terrain™ and terrain-based learning into instruction, Northstar recently launched the next chapter of skiing’s most innovative instructional methodology. Additional strategically-created snow enhancements – such as berms, gentle rollers and angled features – will offer improved focus on technique which guides skiers and riders to the next ability level.
