· Heavenly, Northstar to Open November 21; Kirkwood slated to open November 22
· Season Passes to the Best of Tahoe Resorts are Still Available
South Lake Tahoe and Truckee, Calif./Nev. (Monday, Nov. 3, 2014) – Winter has arrived at Lake Tahoe, and the Best of Tahoe resorts received 2-10” of new snow on Saturday. Kirkwood Mountain Resort received 8-10”, Northstar California Resort received 4”, and Heavenly Mountain Resort received 3”. The storm also brought cooler temperatures which allowed the resorts to continue to make snow using the largest and most powerful snowmaking systems at Lake Tahoe. The resorts are primed to open during the weekend of November 21.
“This storm was a true shifting of the seasons, and the mountains and peaks at Tahoe look like mid-January,” said Casey Blann, General Manager at Kirkwood. “Everyone in town is in full prep-for-winter mode, and the Best of Tahoe resorts are leading that charge. Our snowmaking crews are taking full advantage of the cold air from this storm and are in high gear, not wasting a minute of this ideal snowmaking weather.”
The calendar for the Best of Tahoe resorts is full of signature events to kick off the 2014-15 ski and ride season. Heavenly will feature a free concert by Young the Giant on Saturday, Dec. 13 in the Heavenly Village as part of Winter Ignite, which will also include on-mountain fun with Unbuckle at Tamarack après parties and DJ cat parties. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe will open in late December 2014 or early 2015 in South Lake Tahoe’s casino core.
On the North Shore, Northstar invites guests to tōst, a new tradition during which guests can sip a glass of bubbly daily at 2:00 p.m. on the mountain. The inaugural tōst is set for Friday, Dec. 19, at the top of Rendezvous chair.
Adventurous guests can experience Kirkwood’s famed big-mountain exploration through Expedition:Kirkwood – renowned for offering mountain guides and clinics, snow cat tours beyond the resort’s terrain and snow safety education and certification. Guests are also invited to tell their story through social media and the resort’s #KirkwoodDeep campaign.
