Arielle Gold (USA) and Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI) have clinched halfpipe Gold at the 10th FIS Snowboard World Championships staged in Stoneham, Quebec, Canada.

While the reigning Junior World Champion and runner-up of the first ever Olympic Youth Games did honour to her last name by earning the highest score of 79.00 points in the first run of the six girls finals, Iouri Podladtchikov secured his first FIS World Championships title in the second run of the twelve men final being the last one to drop in.

Although facing tough conditions due to the fresh snow, the top qualifier and 2011 Silver medalist relegated so far leading Taku Hiraoka (JPN, 93.75) to the second spot – with the tiny advantage of .50 points earned for a cab 1080 nose to frontside 900 tail, backside 540 mute, frontside 1080 tail and a cab 1080 double cork mute to finish things off.

“The conditions got a little bit worse but I was on fire to give it all in in my second run and make it,” said Podladtchikov.

The only mail snowboarder with a Gold and Silver medal in the halfpipe event at FIS World Championships also explained that he needs this kind of pressure to perform the best.

“It helps to focus and to push myself to the limit. If this finally works out, you kind of write history for yourself and this is what pushes me.”

However, that it finally turned out with a Golden glim wasn't anything to expect given the fact that the two-time Olympian who represented Russia in 2006 and Switzerland in 2010 had a pretty rough day to go through.

“It's unbelievable. First, it seemed that nothing would work out throughout the whole day. It started with heavy snow fall, then I broke my board crashing in my first training run. And now Gold. That it all worked out in the very last run is amazing. I'm super happy,” recapped the tenth FIS Snowboard Halfpipe World Champion in history.

Markus Malin (FIN, 86.75) took Bronze just like two years ago in La Molina, Spain. (via FISSnowboard.com)
