They say first impressions are everything. Over the course of the 2013-14 winter as ten prodigious snowboarders meticulously and tirelessly stacked footage, it was clear that The SNOWBOARDER Movie: Foreword would need one hell of a thesis statement to aptly present the shots that would follow in each individual segment. In early spring, some of the crew pointed it to Summit County for an unflagging session in the pristine Woodward Copper superpipe. During the shoot, three riders emerged above the lip, combining their personal takes on transition: Ben Ferguson, increasingly known for his pipe prowess and turning talents; Hans Mindnich, who grew up within the icy walls of New England halfpipes; and Sam Taxwood, known for his penchant for street rails and whose abilities within 18-foot walls are no less explosive. These three were joined by Taylor Gold and Chase Josey and these emerging riders tore down said walls, so to speak, of Copper’s superpipe, ushering in the rest of the Foreword cadre with a fierce opening. And of course, this is only the beginning.
