An additional day awaited those who had a day off on Thursday, October 3rd (German public holiday). Ideal weather, the first test tents, a perfectly shaped Betterpark and the Pre-Warm Up Party at the Tux1 justly raised expectations for yet another memorable Opening weekend. Pros like Flo Corzelius, Tom Tramnitz, Benny Wetscher, Elias Elhardt, Marko Grilc, Adrian Krainer, Anna Gasser, Simon Pircher and local hero Werni Stock got ready for more snowboarding action over the following days.
On Friday some clouds appeared, but at least the afternoon was all about pure shred fun. Top pros like Mathias Weissenbacher, Seppe Smits and Mario Käppeli rocked the park alongside many other keen riders. The test area and the adidas lounge were bustling, and so was the first of three adidas Jersey Jams. Anyone was invited to show tricks for cash and drink vouchers. In the evening the Pirates crew and their team riders Elias Elhardt, Kalle Ohlson, Sami Luhtanen and Werni Stock presented the new Pirates movie Distorted Reality to an overwhelming response in the cinema-like Tux Center. The night concluded at the “Shred Warm Up Party” in Tux.
Due to changeable conditions the Session of the Dudes – usually the contest highlight of the Opening – had to be cancelled. Unfazed, most riders rode the smaller kicker lines and the many new jib obstacles instead. The visibility improved over the course of the day, and in the afternoon the second adidas Jersey Jam took place. It was obvious that riders like Denis Leontyev, Jeremie Unterberger, Alex Walch, Michi Schatz and Len Roald Joergensen enoyed the cash for tricks session on the new combination of the adidas barrieres. The After Shred Session in the Hintertux parking log offered the Original Bag Jump, beats, drinks and an indoor mini ramp session, presented by theshapersblog.com and G-Ramps. Playboard editor Jochen Bauer, Steve Gruber, Björn Bettermann and Tom Recheis showed that style on a board is an ageless affair. Once again, the party highlight of the Opening, the Analog Opening Night in the Hohenhaus Tenne in Hintertux featured many rad music acts (Stereo Tam Tam and Smash Hifi, featuring former The Prodigy member Leeroy Thornhill, Wax Wreckaz and DJ Smoking Fingaz). With the largest Opening party tent it was the perfect place for party-hungry snowboarders from all over Europe.
Sunday – as usually a chilled finale of the Opening weekend – offered another opportunity to take part in an adidas Jersey Jam. The test area was busy, and the Betterpark saw many sunny patches. Riders could choose among so many new jib features, the term rail line is a euphemism. It is rather a creative jib park with a skatepark-like choice of countless different obstacle lines. It was also here that the kids shoot was done. In total 19 groms took the chance to get advise from Wolle Nyvelt, while snowboard-pro-cum-photographer and Zillertal legend Thomas ‘Beckna’ Eberharter captured the action.
Slowly, most guests descended into the valley and eventually returned home. They all experienced that instead of relying on good weather, fun in snowboarding is the combination of meeting like-minded people, having good snow conditions and riding in an excellent park. Another big plus for the Hotzone.tv Park Opening Hintertux is the fact that it is a benchmark for all snowboard parties. Needless to say, the Opening will return in 2014; Super Rooster will make sure that park, parties and program will once again exceed all expectations! By the way: Only a few weeks from now the daily shaped park will host another important snowboard event: The first stop on the all-new Zillertal Välley Rälley hosted by Ride Snowboards and organized by the Ästhetiker crew goes down on 26/27 October. Don’t miss out on the free Ästhetiker coaching session!
