Mountain & Adventure Film Festival announces winners
Sufferfest 2 won top honors of the first annual Film Festival Flix Mountain & Adventure Film Festival. The film centers on Alex Honnold and Cedar Wright who climb 45 of the American Southwest's most iconic Desert Towers, via their most difficult routes; in an epic and scenic bike journey that takes them through Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona
Benjamin Oberman, CEO of Film Festival Flix announces the winners of the festival's maiden voyage along with Joni Cooper, former Director, Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and co-host of the first annual Mountain & Adventure Film Festival over an unprecedented 28 days during the month of February.
The online festival, which celebrates world class athletes, explorers, filmmakers, adventures and awe-inspiring locations from the most remote corners of the planet, boasts a series of events along with traditional Filmmaker Q&A's, Expert Panels, and Twitter Chats; all online. (Watch what you want | When you want | Where you want).
Seven competition categories are awarded a total of $12,000 in cash prizes with additional recognition through sponsored awards. Winners receive distribution on Film Festival Flix, affiliate networks and branded distribution channels. "The inaugural Film Festival Flix Mountain & Adventure Film Festival was a huge success," says Oberman. "The festival received submissions from the best adventure filmmakers worldwide, showcased over forty world class titles, with viewers from eleven countries. The festival's online panel discussions brought together filmmakers, scientists, activists, and non-profit organizations through the use of internet technologies. Over half a million people engaged with the festival online, proving that a virtual festival is a powerful tool, offering the entire world wide general public access to many great films which were previously unavailable or difficult to find. The festival worked in partnership with non-profit organizations, representing more than ten million people, who advocate for the sports and the places these films showcase."
"There are many great Mountain & Adventure film tours, but they showcase a limited number of short films to select audiences, with little to no life for the films following the tour," Oberman continues. "Our online Mountain & Adventure Film Festival provides audiences with complete access to all the films selected as well as life for the films beyond the festival through our Film Festival Flix VOD, theatrical series, and branded channels." 2
Film Festival Flix is awarding $12,000 cash prizes across seven categories. Stock footage marketplace, Pond 5, is supplementing those cash prizes with $900 worth of stock footage clips for the filmmaker's future projects. The winners in each of the seven categories were awarded through audience vote alone.
Responding to demand for public screenings and community gatherings, Film Festival Flix is programming the Mountain & Adventure Film series in select locations starting March 14th in Los Angeles. For more information visit www.FilmFestivalFlix.com/Mountain-Film/
