The Red Bull Double Pipe – a first of its kind event – made history in Aspen, Colorado over the weekend. Two 22-foot Superpipes placed side by side made for brand new structure in snowboarding, and the riders definitely stepped up to the challenge. A select group of the best snowboarders in the world were invited to shred this massive snow sculpture, including Vans team riders Arthur Longo and Markus Keller. With only a few days of practice under their belts, they took to the pipes and dialed in transfer lines over the four-foot wide spine to put together truly unique runs that have never seen before. After a two-hour jam format in the semi finals that saw Longo throw down a Switch Double Backside Rodeo Ally Oop, a trick that only he can do, the 8 finalists moved on to take three runs for a shot at the top spot. In dramatic fashion Arthur waited until his third and final run to link up a run that included a giant Fakie Air entry off the hip to Cab Seven to Back Three transfer and so much more. When the scores were tallied, Longo found himself atop the podium in Third place. Markus Keller took a gnarly slam in Semis, but still managed to walk away with the Best Style Rider's Choice Award! What could be better right? Style is everything.
