U SASA NATIONALS RETURN TO MAMMOTH
Mammoth Lakes, CA - The US Amateur Snowboard Association National Championships
kick off March 18, returning to Mammoth Mountain for thesecond year in
a row. Over 800 of the country's top pro and amateur competitors ranging
in age from 6 to 60 are set to hit the slopes for World's Largest Snowboarding
Event ®.
Five days of competition will feature five disciplines
including halfpipe, boardercross, slopestyle, slalom and giant slalom
for 13 different age divisions. The competition will also feature the
USASA Open Class, the Pro/Am level competition, as a separate competition
group, as well as the Adaptive Snowboarders division.
Peter
Greene, the President of USASA, commented, "The USASA is eager to
return to Mammoth Mountain because last years Nationals was the best ever."
Mammoth Mountain earned the honor of hosting the massive event largely
because of the world-class Superpipe for which the mountain has become
renowned. "Mammoth is happy to be hosting this great event,"
said Pam Murphy, Vice President of Mammoth Mountain and General Manager
of Mammoth West. "The attendance, organization and atmosphere at
last year's event was spectacular, and we look forward to working with
USASA once again."
The USASA Nationals are an invitational event and all
competitors have qualified to participate by earning points in USASA sanctioned
events throughout the country. Mammoth Mountain
is host to one of the 37 independent local series, the VANS Unbound Series.
USASA was originally founded in 1987 to represent and encourage snowboarding
at the grass roots level. The organization grants scholarships to aid
athletes in their educational pursuits and provides an outlet for snowboarders
of all ages to challenge themselves and their friends.
The USASA Nationals will be held at various locations
on Mammoth Mountain from March 18-23. For more information, please contact
Joani Lynch, Mammoth Mountain Communications Manager, at (760) 934-0645.
