My most used jacket from the quiver
I have the slightly older Beta SL. It is possibly better as it has pit zips. Have no idea why they got rid of this. That being said, this jacket is worth its weight in gold. Which wouldn't be very much :) I use this jacket anytime in the summer when rain clouds loom or in the winter when backcountry skiing. It is the perfect shell! I think I have worn if at least over 100 times. Every once in awhile I'll treat it again with Nikwax and its rejuvenated. If this shell ever wears out, I'll buy another paclite, hopefully it will have pit zips again.Things I like. The draw chord at the waist is essential for skiing down on powder days. The hood is the best I have seen. It has a small visor and 3 different draw chords for customizability so that you always have a full field of vision while your whole head is covered. One minor issue, one of the draw chords is directly behind the head so that you cannot lay your head down with the hood on since the plastic digs in. But, on the other hand, I guess you shouldn't be laying down with this jacket anyways but climbing mountains! The zips are fully laminated so that even during the downpours, there is no seepage.
The Arc'teryx Beta SL is a sick jacket for sure. Works well as a rain Jacket in the Spring/Fall. Also makes a great \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"touring in a storm\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" type of Jacket. I highly recommend this jacket for anyone who finds themselves in wet/warm soggy conditions.
Good for 3 Seasons just not the ones you think
I have quite a few shells, I'm a bit of a jacket junky. Firstly I like this jacket - however I would not use it for hiking or any other outdoor sports. Its my urban rain jacket. There's no point wearing the beta sl in temps above 70 since you will end up getting soaked in sweat. The beta SL in my opinion is a fall, winter, spring shell. This is my first paclite jacket - and honestly for outdoor exertion paclite really needs pit zips - because it doesn't breath all that great. I have a MH Quark which breaths like a dream - and it has pit zips. Problem is the Quark is really delicate - I already have two small tears from thorns and stuff. I also have the theta ar - but that is relatively heavy.Long story short - the beta sl is a very nice around town jacket - but it would be a mistake to get it for hiking. I got the Dusk color and it was made in Canada - so that was sweet. Also I paid about 185, and I don't think its worth full price.Last word I like my jacket and chicks seem to dig it - but if you want it for hiking get something w pit zips - or you'll end up kicking yourself.Nice for Around town and travel - also I agree w/ Joe about using elastic instead of Velcro at the wrists.I'm 5'9 160 and the medium is a perfect fit.
