Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket Bud Headphones Customer Review(s):

Awesome but wire cloth is faulty

Rating (1-5): 4 | Reviewed By: ian3439348

I really love these earphones! They are excellent quality as far as sound. However, the cloth wrapped around the wires had ripped since the second day I had them and have continued to rip in other places. Thankfully, the wire it self is still in tact. Also, I have never had in-ear headphones before like these. They sometimes make my ear sore after extended use. But I think that is also just a preference thing. Really good earphones though, and I have received so may complements on them! It's an awesome color, really.

Quality Problem

Agree with the sound quality, nice look, useful in the gym, etc. etc. But unfortunately (and consistent with many other reviews) something about these headphones are poorly engineered.3GS comments (maybe applicable to other devices):o For whatever reason, when the plug is fully inserted, iPhone 3GS skips between recognizing the headphone mic and not -- result is constant clicking and the sound adjusts between volume settingso The mic button doesn't seem to do anythingo No volume controlMy solution over the weekend -- before deciding to return -- was to slightly pull the headphone connector out such that 3GS is forced into one mode of operation. Using this hack, the headphones produce great sound (full bass and clear high ranges). That said, I can get even better sound quality and more confident engineering (no mic) with etymotics for the same price.

Umm...Not sure about the sound quality.

So this is a comparison review, new vs. old. I bought a new set off of Steep and cheap to replace an older pair that I bought about 4 years ago. The new ones have the inline mic. I bought these to use with my Droid phone, and I assumed they would have the same sound quality as the old pair, that did not have a mic, but an inline volume control slider. Well, when I got the new ones, put the old ones in the drawer as backups and kind of forgot about them. After using the new ones for a few weeks I realized that something was different, so I did a comparison test. Same song at the same volume from the same ipod. Wow, what a difference. The old pair had MUCH better bass response and were louder and clearer in general. These are essentially the same product here, both FMJ 11mm earbuds, but the difference between the two is huge. I am not sure, either they really changed the design in the last few years, or I got a defective pair. The new ones I would give maybe 2.5 stars, the old ones are more like a 4 or 4.5 for sound quality.
