   Techno is fun! weeeeeee

Is Hellogoodbye techno? I don't think so but check them out anyway. I'm madly in love with them and gave them condoms when I met them.

I don't listen to too much techno, but I love rap for more freestyle-oriented shredding. For freeriding, I usually listen to punk/rock/metal, but a good hip-hop song in the pipe makes me catch the rythm of the pipe even better.

Now, for the artists:

Wu-Tang. Their beats seem to be made for the pipe, Protect Ya Neck for example really lets me rock.

GangStarr. His beats are also raw, non-poppy and slow enough for freestyle jibbing / halfpipe work.

To name more, you can check out House of Pain, Cypress Hill (earlier work), Method Man, Naughty by Nature.

Notice most of the groups are old skool, that's because I find current beats too pop-oriented to get me going while shredding.

To all who reply to this post with RAP SUX, I hate RAP and that kind of crap --> Grow up / Go **** yourself.

"Techno" is often too broadly used a term for anything electronic.
there are dozens of types of good electronic, one to suit almost anyone's taste. I think alot of people who say they hate techno have just never heard any good electronic and genralize. I like Electro, Drum and Bass, Jungle, and IDM. Of course good breaks are awesome too. For an "irie" session in the sun, sometimes even some jazzy house can be good, like Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz series.

For hip hop, I hope everyone finds some good underground ##### and goes further than Wu and 50 Cent. Too many posers on the hill with oversize, flat-brim baseball hats listening to G Unit thinking they are "hip hop" when they really don't know ##### and are a bunch of wannabe coutry folk.

Here's what I recommend as far as hip hop and electronic and other breaks:
Living Legends and all the members solo work
Hieroglyphics and all the members solo work
Blackaliscious
Lyrics Born
Brother Ali, Slug, and everyone is RhymeSayers crew
DJ Shadow
Z Trip
Aphex Twin
Autechre
Dieselboy
Coldcut
DJ Krush
Zion I!

And for hardcore I like east cost metal/core x-over like All Out War, Diecast, Blood for Blood, Blood Has Been Shed, Fury of Five, E-town concrete, Mushmouth, and a bunch of other hardcore, even though some of those Jersey bands get carried away and say "n*gga" alot and are white they still kill it.

and so much more I just can't remember it all.

Good topic . . . it's too bad there's not a forum for "Mixes to Ride To" or something like that.

Anyway, hey washedupndurty -- thanks, man, for turning me on to Lyrics Born and Heiroglyphics. I'm a pure back-country rider, but for some reason, that music has the flow and beat that I was lookin' for. I was kind of in a musical rut and thought I'd check out your response to the topic . . . and was pleased with your suggestions. You have good taste . . .

I'm dialed in and ready to ride my first day tomorrow -- thanks for framing that ride with some sweet bground music . . .

Thx.

ever seen "underworld" live? or "Orbital"? Both would probably be classed as techno (orbital took their name from the illegal partys that were going on around the London M25 Orbital Motorway in the late 80's. From the original punk days you have Joy Division, who became New Order, who are also partly 808 State. It's like playing 6 degrees of kevin bacon...
Audio Slave, made of of members of Rage against the machine & another band i forget now (i think...)
erm, no point really, music that comunicates a message well, or an or even stimulates an emotion involuntarily, now thats the good stuff, but the trick is finding the good stuff.
Rap wise I respect eminem for being the only truely sucessful white rapper, I don't neccessarily share his views, but he's got as much write to them as I do mine. Also Kanye West, although I couldn't shred to his music, If you really listen to his lyrics, he's got a lot to say, a lot of talent too (produced John Legends CD I believe?). Anyway, I think i'm done venting now. happy listening!

I listen to rap sparlingly...i tend to avoid the mainstream stuff. I'm a big Twiztid fan though...and Nitro Microphone Underground *from Japan*, Lab Rats *out of Columbus, OH* and the all might PHUNK JUNKEEZ. Since i'm in the underground music scene *playing in the bands Guild Navigators and Spiky Ficus* i tend to gravitate to more underground acts. I love tech...used to rave it up back in the 90's...been a while though. I like jamming on some (goa and acid) trance, breaks, jungle, chemical beats...and big beats. It really depends on my mood...some days its funk...some days its punk...somedays its hard electro....alot of EBM and Industrial too.

Chemical Brothers
Crystal Method
DJ Shadow
DJ Irene
Aphrodite
Tiesto *at times*
Electro Synthetic Rebelion
Astral Projection
Bitcrush
Clock DVA
John Kelly
Juno Reactor
Liquefaction
Prodigy
XP8
Squarepusher
Rabit in the Moon
FR/Action
Tangerine Dream
Kraftwerk
Celldweller

Thats pretty much the electro i have on hand...i'm always on the lookout for new stuff though!

Hydro
"The Aqua Line Spirit"

   Diversity is key:
In any genre you get sh*t, DJ's are so say there to filter out the dross, but I often get the impression that the majority of them are more interested in self promotion. One EXCEPTION would be Nick Warren, one half of "Way Out West" who is usually recorded playing some of the most curring edge underground progressive house/trance or whatever you wanna call a hypnotic soulful beat, but often plays breaks, hip hop, ambient & all sorts of more traditional stuff in his sets. Another alternative none of you will probably ever of heard of DJ John O'Dwyer/Jonny Deep/Jonny Bleep (JB to his mates). He taught me how to mix, much like yoda to skywalker, while he went about his business spinning pots out of clay. I digress though, and as I tend to waffle a hell of a lot, bear with me or get lost.
I personally prefer to shred to music that gets my blood pumping, adrenaline flowing (secreting? it's a hormone), but sometimes to music that makes me slow the pace a little so I can take in the beauty of what is is I'm actually doing. Standing on snow covered mountain with incredible views (last time was in Sallen, Sweden. from the top you can see into Norway, like some forbidden land. was cool (sorry to any sweedes for the mispell).

So I guess what i'm trying to say here is, most music has a time and a place, where that is is up to the individual. Personally I'd find listening to the lyrics of Rap, or for that matter most song based music distracting, wasting the effort to put it on in the first place, whereas "Techno" be it beats, bleeps, or whatever is more often good as background music for ME to ride to. <<previous post already correctly dismantled Techno from a single genre into many so I won't repeat - although I would like to point out that HipHop, House, and a few other styles share the same roots, but when commercialisation set it, money got involved and therefore greed set it, which divided a once harmonious creative movement>>

Good site to preview (and download if you wanna buy it) a whole spectrum of music styles, mostly electronic in nature, but including the likes of Squarepusher, Beans, Maximo Park, Aphex Twin, Autechre (used on POP by Absinthe films)> check out www.bleep.com

So put your prejudice asside, don't comment on sh1t you know nothing about, and don't be afraid to try/do/listen to new things. You never know, you might find you like it. I grew up listening to the likes of Metallica "Master of Puppets", still one of my favourite CD's to this day, although today for example I was listening to "Come to Daddy" By aphex twin, just about as far apart on a musical genre spectrum as you can get. By now must of you will have stoped reading, so for those of you who haven't, checkout "Dead Horse" by Cassetteboy. It's the funniest CD I've heard in ages.

Both are pretty much terrible. Techno can be fun if it is a back up to a good band like Panic! At The Disco. But otherwise it should be left untouched.
