I'm just wondering because I never do. I got it with the board but I never tied it to the binding. I've seen 10x more loose skies than I've seen loose boards. I only saw two boards go down the slopes this whole season with the rider chasing them.

I know it's abnormal, but I actually use mine. I have one of the longe ones that comes up around my calf. It's not a pain really to hook in especially when you consider that we are constantly clicking bindings. The best part of my leash is when I'm off the mountain though. You can loop the one end through your bindings and use the leash to carry the board over your shoulder. It has to be more comfortable then carrying it under your arm, but I don't see a lot of other people doing it where leashes arent required.

i'm of the understanding that the only way my board is coming loose from my feet is if both my legs are severed, and in that case i don't think i am going to worry about my board.

leashes are for dogs

I actually carry my leash in my pocket and use it as a shoulder strap when hiking from wherever in BFE I found parking. So much easier then carring it surfboard style under the arm.

I havent used a leash in ten years... unless youre using step-ins you dont need one... how many times have you seen a board fall off a rider who uses strap bindings... unless the board separates from the bindings via the screws or inserts the board isnt going to fall off you. If I remember right a few years back here on the east coast bungee strap leashes were a hot accessory for all those steezed out riders... not for me, but then again im not too cool...

Some resorts still check for them. In that case, I have mine just clipped to either my toe or ankle strap. It looks like your leash is connected, but I don't have to bother with taking it off.

The only time I have seen a foot come off of a board was a guy riding baseless bindings. The things were a joke.

Leashes can be dangerous because sometimes you need to unstrap and bail from your board completely and quickly.

I almost killed a 3 year old kid a few years ago when I unstrapped midway up the hill and the board got away from me (board took his leg out going about 40 mph). I have no doubt the dad would have killed me with his bare hands had I not been so freaked out and apolgetic about it (the kid was okay). Leashes are completely unnecessary for snowboards and I was an idiot for what happened, but I now use one every time out.

If you had destrapped then release a leash, you could have encountered the same mishaps.

Consider these scenarios:

-You get caught face down in deep powder and barely have enough strength to reach to your bindings to destrap. A leash would be another obstacle.

-Your child gets caught face down in deep powder and the fastest way over is for you to destrap and somehow hike over. A leash could mean an extra 30 seconds you may not have.

The first scenario happened to me. The second scenario happened to a friend.

I find them to be annoying as hell also, just constantly latching them on and off your laces or w.e.

I've went to some local hill that has a sign that says snowboarders must wear leashes. Then it says something like, no leash, no lift. I laugh everytime I see it since I never once wore a leash on my new board and never had anyone say a damn thing.

I just wear mine too, to set an example for my kid mostly. And some mountains do check still and it would be a pain to have to get one when you are next up the lift. But the one time my board went down the hill was right after i unhooked my leash Ha ha. I was so tired and burned out, too bad i had to chase my board and walk back up again to my lodge, then i was really tired.

Lol yea I have a coil leash and I just clip it to my lace. Takes all of 5 seconds to get on and off. Really not reason to use one, although I did find myself chasing my board down the hill for a good 3 minutes one day.

Same story for me. Kids and the resort requires them. At least with the one I use it doubles as a shoulder strap. I figure the resorts require them do to some insurance bullsh!t. Otherwise it doesn't make any sence.

I have a nice tiny little leash that came with my Ride bindings, so it's not annoying at all. I just tied it to my bindings and clip it on this little gap in the strap of my binding so atleast I have one, just incase anyone confronts me over it. I never use it though.

I never saw a board come loose my whole life, except for like when idots unstrap their whole board and then they forget that boards move on their own.

...psst ! somebody got stabbed at our school !

People are stupid and they probably just loosen it up without holding on to the board. Either that, or they sit down to strap in and put the boad parallel to the slope instead of perpendicular to it like dumbasses. Who knows? We live in a stupid world and in this stupid world there are equally stupid or stupider people.

to whoever said that skiiers are hipicrits because they want us to wear leashes, ur stupid. when a skiier falls his skis come off, but they dont slide down the hill like a snowboard would, because skis have these things that pop down when their boots arent in their skis, which stop the skis from sliding down the hill. simple, wearing a leash has to do with insurance in a way. if your snowboard flies down the hill and injures someone, if you werent wearing a leash, then youd be deeper in crap than if you had been wearing a leash.

i dont use them, too much of a hassle, and ive never lost my board, however onetimne i was trying to teach my sister and she fell out of her board, so her boots were in her bindings and she had to run down in socks. luckly the run was short like all runs in mn so it wasnt that bad

I think the resorts are mostly concerned when boarders are riding up a chairlift with only the front foot strapped in.If that front binding failed at that time you should still have a leash to keep your board from crashing down on top of someone or worse yet, ruining your board.

well, leashes connect to bindings , so if the bindings comes off the board your still screwed
