UP 16-24” OF SNOW! BEAR MOUNTAIN OPEN FRIDAY SNOW SUMMIT OPEN SATURDAY
Big Bear Lake, Calif.,
Thursday October 28, 2004 – On Tuesday October 26, 2004 a record-breaking
early winter storm brought 16-24 inches of new snow to Big Bear Mountain
Resorts (BBMR). Bear Mountain Resort (Bear Mountain) will open for the
2004/2005 season on Friday October 29, 2004. Snow Summit Mountain Resort
(Snow Summit) will open Saturday October 30, 2004 (there is a small chance
that Snow Summit will also open Friday). “We have crews up on the
mountain grooming slopes and getting lifts ready to run. We plan to begin
making snow tonight (Wednesday night) with more snowmaking Thursday and
Friday to supplement the natural snow. Conditions for both resorts are
expected to be very good especially for this early in the season,”
said Big Bear Mountain Resorts Director of Marketing, Chris Riddle.
Bear Mountain will
open Friday with chairs 1, 2, 6 and possibly 9 (some snowmaking is required
on chair 9 before opening) operating. Snow Summit will open Saturday with
chairs 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 operating. Both resorts will offer early season
rates of $39 for adults (ages 22+), $29 for young adults (ages 12-21)
and $14 for children (ages 6-12). Half-day rates of $32 for adults (ages
22+), $22 for young adults (ages 12-21) and $10 for children (ages 6-12).
Bear Mountain expects to open as “The Park” from day one,
offering several jumps, rails and boxes. Lessons, rentals and food service
will be available however Bear Mountain’s food service will be limited.

“We could open
today with marginal conditions however we feel it is more important to
offer a quality product to our customers. With some additional snowmaking
our conditions will be excellent for opening. The extra day will also
give us plenty of time to build and install several nice terrain features
including jumps, rails and boxes and truly open as The Park,” said
Bear Mountain General Manager, Brent Tregaskis.
