PARK
CITY MOUNTAIN RESORT RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE TOP FOUR TERRAIN
PARKS IN THE WORLD BY SNOWBOARDING MAGAZINE
INVITED
TO COMPETE IN SNOWBOARDER MAGAZINE'S
SUPERPARK VII - THE CUTTER'S CUP WORLD PARK BUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Park City, Utah -
Park City Mountain Resort was recently recognized by Snowboarder Magazine
as one of the top four terrain parks in the world and invited to participate
in Superpark VII - The Cutter's Cup World Park Building Championships.
At Breckenridge beginning April 21-29, 2003, Park City Mountain Resort
will compete against teams from Mammoth, Whistler and Breckenridge in
a three-day terrain park building extravaganza.
Terrain parks have
become a necessary offering for progressive mountain resorts looking to
attract the growing freeride market. At the beginning of this season,
Park City Mountain Resort invested $1 million to its freeride initiative,
which included the development of the Resort's five new terrain parks,
added snowmaking on designated terrain park runs, new grooming equipment
dedicated to terrain park maintenance and the new Park City "All-Stars"
snowboard team.
"It's insane
how far the Resort has come in just one season," says Jim Mangan,
the Resort's freeride manager. "Being invited to Cutter's Cup is
such an honor for our terrain park crew and it adds to Park City Mountain
Resort's credibility as a world-class resort and leader in the action
sports industry."
According to SNOWBOARDER
Magazine, "Teams from four resorts were chosen for their prominence
in the park building community and overall support of the progression
of the resort snowboarding experience." Top professional snowboard
athletes, SNOWBOARDER Magazine and former SNOWBOARDER Magazine editor,
Mark Sullivan, determine selection criteria for park rankings.

The competition begins
with drawing straws to assign each resort a zone on the mountain. Each
zone offers comparable terrain space, pitch and snow depth and will consist
of a jump feature and a rail feature. Six hours are allocated, on site
at Breckenridge, to weld a rail feature. In addition, three team members
get 30 hours of cat time to complete their terrain park zone.
In an interesting
role-reversal, terrain park builders are the competitors while the athletes
are the judges. Upon completion of the zones, the Superpark will be open
to 75 of the world's best professional
snowboard athletes to begin riding. Athletes will ride Superpark for four
days and vote on which zone they think is the best. Judges will determine
an overall impression for each zone taking into consideration creativity,
grooming skills and flow between features. They will also judge who they
believe to be the best rider. Both the winning resort and best rider will
receive a cash prize.

Park City Mountain
Resort located just 37 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport,
hosted six medal events for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The Resort
is currently ranked as Utah's leader in rider/skier visits and offers
3,300 acres of terrain.
